Updates coming

I apologize for not publishing any new (primary) posts here lately. I spent a great deal of time and energy the last few weeks looking for a place to live, packing, moving, unpacking and settling in.

I have several new posts/drafts that I’m working and will begin publishing this week. And, of course, the right column - ‘Freshly Picked’ - is updated daily, regardless of what’s going on in the primary (left) column. Thanks for visiting!

Twitter Site Updated

You may be stumbled onto the Twitter site tonight and thought to yourself, “hrm.. something feels different”. And you’d be right.

The guys at Twitter are starting to roll out a series of updates. According to Twitter, this round is purely cosmetic.. and will support some future (not so trivial) updates.

I like the new look. The ‘home’ page and site designer are definite improvements over the previous versions. Doesn’t look like they’ve spent any effort updating the ‘followers’ and ‘following’ tabs this around.

A good step in the right direction, though..

Follow Me

Normally, individuals will follow Mac companies/sites on Twitter to help stay updated on Mac software and related news.

As it turns out, TUAW (The Unofficial Apple Weblog) is now following me.. as of 5 minutes ago. Interesting. Of course, they’re following 2500 other Twitter accounts as well, so.. ;)

Still.. thanks for the add guys!

Adium 1.3 & Facebook disconnect issue

Ok, so you’ve been running the new Adium 1.3 and have added your Facebook account. You’ll find that this works great.. a much better experience than chatting from the Facebook website. You’ll ALSO find if you have Adium connected and try to use the Facebook website, you’ll be logged out almost immediately.

The only solution for the moment is to (from Adium) click the ‘Status’ menu and select ‘Offline’ for your Facebook account when you want to use the Facebook website. Of course, the opposite is true as well..

There’s a discussion starting up at Cocoa Forge if you’re interested.

New Plano MUG site!

Thanks for everyone’s patience as I was readying the new Plano MUG site. It’s been a long time coming, but I think we’re ready for prime time! I built this using Wordpress 2.6 and based it on a theme called ‘Papercut‘ from Woo Themes.. and hacked at everything until it turned out the way i wanted.

There’s not really anything on the archive page yet.. in fact, there may not even be a post for EVERY category for the first week or so. This will change quickly. I wanted to get the show on the road. I’ll be publishing 2 or 3 ‘real’ posts a week. Other sections (’Freshly Picked’, Twitter feeds..) will be updated daily.

Launching a blog that doesn’t suck is a lot of work, but I’ve built - and torn down - a number of them over the past few years, and learned a great deal about how to do it. I promise the content here will be useful, and crafted with love and dedication to our favorite fruit company ;)

Enjoy ~

Ars Technica has long been one of the most comprehensive and respected sources for Mac news/analysis.

Daring Fireball when John Gruber has something to say, most of the Mac world stops and listens.. attentively. No joke.

AFP548 Mac OS X Server administration. Not the most lickable site, but their forums are a freaking gold mine.

Make Mac Work administration and implementation of Mac systems in corporate environments. Superb content.

Engadget has tech news and reviews for probably every freaking electronic product you've ever heard of.

Lynda.com online, self-paced video training for pretty much everything (459 courses, 30K videos)

iLounge is the most significant iPod and iPhone (and accessory) site there is. Dizzying number of reviews..

Paul Stamatiou a wealth of comprehensive and thoughtful Mac commentary. Very smart kid.. keep your eye on him.

Tech Crunch a bit sensationalist.. but still have their finger on the pulse of the tech industry
